EXCLUSIVE: Fust Unveil New Song “Trouble”

Durham, NC-based country band Fust (a rotating core of Aaron Dowdy, Avery Sullivan, Oliver Child-Lanning, Justin Morris, John Wallace, Frank Meadows, Courtney Werner, Alex Farrar and Sasha Popovici) have returned with the second single from their upcoming LP Genevieve, which is set to arrive in-full on June 16 via Dear Life Records. “Trouble,” which features the handiwork of fellow Tar Heels Jake Lenderman and Xandy Chelmis of Wednesday and MJ Lenderman, is a sweet, soulful alt-rock tune adrift with Crazy Horse-style riffs provided by the former and a limitless pedal steel gifted by the latter.

On top of the gracious guest spots from Wednesday on the album, Genevieve also features contributions from Indigo De Souza and Michael Cormier-O’Leary. Debut single “Violent Jubilee” was a brilliant welcome mat: a piano-facing ballad that spun itself into a distorted, gothic bedrock of Americana inflections and Southern rock architecture. “Trouble,” though much more handsome and steadfast in its North Carolina twang (which Fust brought to life at Drop of Sun Studios in Asheville), is not just a great companion to “Violent Jubilee” but a perfect encapsulation of the compositional brilliance of Genevieve altogether.
