North London “estrogen pop” outfit Girl Ray have announced the details of their forthcoming sophomore album Girl and shared its lead single, the springy “Show Me More.”
Set to arrive on Nov. 8 via Moshi Moshi, Girl follows the band’s 2017 debut Earl Grey and is described as a “delightful, sun-kissed tribute to their love of pop and R&B” and “the excitement of Rihanna’s If It’s Lovin’ That You Want, combined with the eye-rolling, impenetrable sardonic humour of a girl gang.” You can preorder the release here.
The album’s first cut “Show Me More” lives halfway between pop and disco—a cool, funky arrangement of jaunty guitars, a poppy, rhythmic bass line and a healthy amount of synth claps. The band explain in a statement that the song is about “crushing really hard but having to play the long game and wait it out because your boo is playing savage games. It’s your classic pop banger. Steamy dance floor. Drinks on me.”
The announcement arrives with a fresh set of Girl Ray 2020 headlining tour dates and a brief run of U.K. dates in support of Metronomy. You can check out the band’s full slate of upcoming performances below.
