Goon Share Relaxed New Song “Black Finch” From Next Week’s Debut Album, Heaven Is Humming

Los Angeles indie-rockers Goon are prepping next week’s release of their eagerly anticipated debut record Heaven is Humming with the release of a new single.

Jolting awake every so often, “Black Finch” is a dreamy track that hazily wades through the subconscious. The track’s laid-back psych-rock instrumentation has the goldilocks amount of reverb and polyrhythm, leaving the distant vocals plenty of space to chirp in free-associations; singer Kenny Becker fools around with near-gibberish non sequiturs, letting lyrics like “I’m a grape on a vine / Emotion in rust / Saca la snacks / Embarrassed by what my melody says” drift through the ether.

“Black Finch” comes attached to a moodily lit lyric video. In slow-motion, the band jump around and dance to their tune, wafting through fog machines and lo-fi light set-ups, playing out like the vague recollection of a mid-’90s music video.

Heaven is Humming is due out July 19 via Partisan Records. You can watch the video for “Black Finch” below, and revisit earlier singles “Snoqualmie” and “Northern Saturn” here.
