Man dies after falling at Goose’s MSG show

A man died on the evening of June 20 after falling from a section of Madison Square Garden’s high-level seating, during a show from rock band Goose. The 51-year-old man, identified by the New York Police Department (NYPD) as Paul Kueker, was in attendance with his wife. The NYPD told CBS News in a statement that officers responding to a 9-1-1 call found him “unconscious and unresponsive” inside the arena shortly before 10 p.m. on Saturday night with “injuries indicative of falling from an elevated position.” He was taken to Bellevue Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

In a statement, MSG Entertainment said that they were “deeply saddened by the loss of a fan’s life at Madison Square Garden,” and that while they “await the police report on the tragedy,” “[their] hearts go out to the family and friends of the concertgoer.” Goose added in their own statement on Instagram, writing that they were “deeply saddened and heartbroken to learn of the tragic event” at the show, extending their sympathies to those affected and thanks to “the emergency personnel and venue staff who stepped in with care and support.” They addressed the incident at their concert the following night at SummerStage in Central Park, extending their condolences to Kueker’s family and friends, before holding a moment of silence for him.

“In moments like this, you realize life is so fragile, we’re so lucky to have an incredible community here around us,” band member Peter Anspach said at the beginning of the concert. “Everybody, if you’re struggling with something, please don’t be afraid to reach out to somebody in your life or send us a message. You know, please. We got to help each other out. That’s why we’re here. People are meant to talk and be with people, so thank you everybody for coming tonight, and we really appreciate you guys so much. We love you.”
