Gorillaz Now Streaming Four New Songs, Share 360-Degree “Saturnz Barz” Video

Damon Albarn was just on BBC Radio 1 to promote Gorillaz’s newly announced Humanz, and the frontman shared the tracks “Andromeda (feat. D.R.A.M.)” and “Saturnz Barz (feat. Popcaan)” during his chat with Mista Jam.

“Saturnz Barz” has Popcaan mechanically slurring atop a mechanically churning beat that stalls out a little in the chorus, while “Andromeda,” named for a nightclub near Albarn’s childhood home, features Albarn’s beautifully distanced voice bouncing back forth with a roboticized D.R.A.M. over a shifting club beat that’s easily one of the bounciest things Gorillaz has done.

Albarn shared that his collaborators were chosen, in part, because he doesn’t have the specific life experience that’s required to tell the narrative he wants to tell.

He also revealed that Humanz was finished late last year and was inspired by imagining the darkest possible fantasy, the darkest thing for the world and then crafting that into reality. In the BBC Radio 1 chat, he mentioned Donald Trump becoming president, but didn’t say it’s explicitly about him.

While you wait for Humanz to drop on April 28, find out more about it here, watch Gorillaz’s 360-video for “Saturnz Barnz” above and stream it, along with the other three new songs, “We Got the Power (feat. Jehnny Beth),” “Ascension (feat. Vince Staples)” and “Andromeda,” below, or via your preferred streaming service here.
