Grimes Is Back in the Studio, Making New Music

Music News Grimes

It looks like the ascendant queen of art-pop is going to be pleasing her subjects with some new music in the near future.

In a recent Q&A with Rolling Stone, Grimes talked about getting back into the studio. “I’m actually halfway done with another record,” the artist said. “I’m not committing to anything, but I have a bunch of b-sides I kind of want to finish. Plus, I’ve been making a bit of new music.” The b-sides are presumably the songs that didn’t make the final cut of her hallmark 2015 album Art Angels, which ranked as one of our favorite albums of last year. It’ll be interesting to hear the full fruits of the Art Angels creation process.

As for the new stuff? Grimes says we should expect it to move in a different direction. “With Art Angels, it was all like [growls]. This would be more chill vibes, downtempos, synth-y shit. That makes it sound boring. It’s not boring.”

Regarding the above quote, we’re mostly happy that Grimes has set a new precedent for describing music without the use of the English language. By that standard, her new material sounds like it’s going to be [whooshes] [whomp whomp]. (The pronunciation of that is up to you.)
