Grizzly Bear Share Playful, Surreal “Mourning Sound” Video

Grizzly Bear are finally back this week—their new album Painted Ruins, which made our list of most anticipated albums for August, is due out this Friday via RCA Records. Today we’ve been graced with a new music video for one of its tracks, “Mourning Sound.”

The video, directed by Beatrice Pegard, features actress Clémence Poésy (Harry Potter, In Bruges, 127 Hours) in what a press release describes as a “playful, pastel-drenched commentary on women’s liberation.” The Marie Antoinette-style video is aesthetically beautiful, and features playful butt shots and some nipples, too—so it might be just slightly NSFW.

Grizzly Bear will also be performing on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert on Thursday, making their late-night debut for their forthcoming record.

Check out the “Mourning Sound” video above, and a Grizzly Bear Daytrotter session from way back when in 2007 below. And while you’re here, check out our Grizzly Bear cover story from Paste Quarterly #2, which you can purchase here, along with its accompanying vinyl sampler.
