Watch HAIM Debut the Paul Thomas Anderson-Directed Video for Their New Single “Now I’m in It”

HAIM would appear to be at work on their third album, the follow-up to 2017’s Something to Tell You, and the Los Angeles pop-rock trio’s latest offering from their still-unannounced new record is “Now I’m in It,” premiering at 3:30 p.m. ET on Wednesday afternoon along with a Paul Thomas Anderson-directed music video.

The eight-time Oscar-nominated filmmaker and frequent HAIM collaborator has been helming nearly all of the Haim sisters’ visuals since they first announced Something to Tell You back in April 2017, directing the band’s “Right Now,” “Little of Your Love” and “Night So Long” videos, as well as a short film titled Valentine. Anderson also oversaw the video for HAIM’s most recent single “Summer Girl,” which the band released in late July, not long after they live-debuted the tune during a hometown show. Paste hailed the single—HAIM’s first studio release since Something to Tell You—as “heartbreaking and vulnerable,” listing it among that month’s best songs.

We’ll be seeing the “Now I’m in It” video for the first time along with you this afternoon, but we do know a bit about it already: HAIM most recently teased their new single on Twitter on Tuesday, Oct. 30 (aka “HAIMoween”), promising a “HAIMMMMMMMMbop” and posting a delightful mini-tribute to another beloved sibling pop act, Hanson:

The Twitter tease was preceded by quite a few others: HAIM called their impending single “the most haim haimy haim song ever written” last Monday, revealing that they’d finished recording it on the following day. This Monday, they expanded on the inspiration behind “Now I’m in It” in an emotional series of tweets, with an unidentified Haim sister explaining that the song is “about going through it. a depression. not leaving the house type of shit”:

Rostam Batmanglij, Danielle Haim and Ariel Rechtshaid are credited as the recording’s producers in the “Now I’m in It” video’s YouTube description, with mixing by Manny Marroquin, mastering by Emily Lazar (assisted by Chris Allgood), and engineering by Rechtshaid, Batmanglij, John DeBold and Dalton Ricks. Anderson and his team filmed the video on location around Los Angeles earlier this month.

Update, 3:45 p.m. ET: “Now I’m in It” is now streaming via Columbia Records. “Even when we’re writing about something dark or more serious, we like to tie it up in a bow so that there’s a bit of lightness to it,” Este Haim says of the single in a statement. “We want our music, and this song especially, to be the thing that helps you get through that rough time.”
