Watch Hannah Dasher’s Paste Session Recorded Live at Bristol Rhythm & Roots Reunion

Paste Studio “On The Road” set up shop at the 2024 Bristol Rhythm & Roots Reunion in Bristol, Tennessee-Virginia, the annual music festival that’s been honky tonkin’ since 2001. The festival features Americana, Appalachian Roots and more, honoring the legacy of Ralph Peer’s 1927 Bristol Sessions that introduced the Carter Family to the world, and continues to inform and inspire musicians to this day. We chose the most fitting location for this intimate series, showcasing artists in the performance space inside the Birthplace of Country Music Museum, dedicated to telling the story of the Bristol Sessions.

Full Session

Larger-than-life country singer-songwriter Hannah Dasher performed three songs, including two from her 2023 album The Other Damn Half, the follow-up to her 2021 EP, The Half Record. First up in this mini-set, we’re treated to a new one called “Wanted,” written as a “bless your heart” response to radio programmers telling her she’s “too rock for country, too commercial for outlaw, and too outlaw for The Highway.”

Wanted

Born and raised in Effingham County, Georgia, Dasher now hangs her hat in her “Honkytonk Graceland” Nashville home, taking style and automotive inspiration from Burt Reynolds’ 1977 car-chase comedy Smokey and the Bandit and John Travolta’s Urban Cowboy (or “if Amy Winehouse and Dolly had a child,” according to TikTok user @kaybabuu). For a closer look at her humor, lifestyle, and aesthetic, check out Dasher’s TikTok @hannahdamndasher for a steady diet of “Stand By Your Pan,” a down-home cooking series shot in her vintage kitchen.

“Redneck Ass”

Between “Redneck Ass” and “Ugly Houses,” we took a minute to discuss Dasher’s love of music history and her influences including Alan Jackson, fried chicken, ZZ Top, and Jesus Christ. Says Dasher, “We’re all melting pots of what we love, and it takes a lot of ingredients sometimes!”

“Ugly Houses”

Big thanks to Charlene, Danielle and the whole team at Bristol Rhythm & Roots Reunion, and to June and her team at the Birthplace of Country Music Museum for bringing these sessions to life. Stay tuned for more Bristol x Paste sessions on the way.
