HEALTH Release Gloomy Collab with Soccer Mommy’s Sophie Allison

Electronic noise-rockers HEALTH have paired up with Soccer Mommy’s Sophie Allison to release a new single today (Sept. 14), “MASS GRAVE.”
The two acts make a surprisingly good pairing, with Allison ditching her jangly, guitar-based sound to lend vocals to HEALTH’s gloomy electronica. As HEALTH and Allison bond over shared melancholia in a song featuring a rib cage-shaking beat drop, it’s almost impossible not to sway along … slowly, of course.
The single was produced by Corin Roddick of Purity Ring and is the first release from HEALTH since their collaboration last year with NOLIFE on “Hard To Be A God.” For Soccer Mommy, the single follows the successful release of Clean, which earned a spot on Paste’s best albums of the year so far.
“The annals of music history are filled with a rich tradition of trios. Crosby, Stills, & Nash … Emerson, Lake, and Palmer … Lennon, McCartney and that other guy … And now Soccer Mommy, the guy from Purity Ring, and HEALTH,” said the band in a statement. “We give you ‘MASS GRAVE.’”
“I really enjoyed getting to work with the guys from HEALTH on this song. It’s one of the first features I’ve ever done and I love the finished product,” added Allison. “It has a kind of apathetic sadness to it that I was really drawn to.”
HEALTH are scheduled to play Riot Fest and Cloak & Dagger Festival later this year, while Soccer Mommy is out on tour in support of her LP.
