Video Premiere: Watkins Family Hour – “Steal Your Heart Away”

Between solo work, Nickel Creek and contributions to several other projects, Sara and Sean Watkins have never been lacking on musical outlets, nor on talented friends to perform with. But for the Los Angeles-based siblings, a monthly slot at Largo performing as Watkins Family Hour has served as an opportunity to experiment, tossing aside expectations and often inviting friends like Fiona Apple, Jackson Browne or Dawes to perform with them for the lucky crowd at the venue. Long an L.A.-specific event, those who couldn’t make it to the show have generally been relegated to podcasts and video clips if they wanted to get a glimpse of the action. No more, though: for the first time, Watkins Family Hour is going on the road, stopping in cities across the country and creating a unique event in each venue by inviting to the stage friends and fellow artists they’ve met along the way. To celebrate this momentous tour, Watkins Family Hour is also releasing a full-length album, recorded live over the course of three days in the studio with friend and producer Sheldon Gomberg.

“Taking the Watkins Family Hour on tour and releasing this record feels like the right next step,” said Sara in a recent press release. “The show is about a community of players and that community stretches across the country. If we can’t get everyone to L.A. to do our show, we’ll come to them.”

Watkins Family Hour is set for release on July 24. In anticipation of the release, the band has debuted a video for album track “Steal Your Heart Away.” Check out the video in the player above, and take a peek at the band’s upcoming tour dates below.
