Up-and-coming Indiana indie-poppers Hoops recently announced Routines, their much-anticipated debut LP, and today they’ve delivered its second single, “On Top,” with a visual treatment to match. This is only the band’s second-ever music video, following “Cool 2” back in October of 2016.
“I just felt like writing a cheesy feel-good positive song,” said Hoops vocalist and bassist Kevin Krauter of the track, which is buoyed by upbeat lyrics and some gorgeous guitar work. Krauter is just one of the quartet’s three songwriters, who often swap instruments and stage positions when the band performs live. The charmingly lo-fi “On Top” video finds them doing just that on public access TV—slowly but surely, the boundaries of the show begin to blur, until a viewer somehow finds himself on set.
