This summer, Hotline TNT, the NYC-based band led by Will Anderson, will release their third album, Raspberry Moon. Due out June 20 via Third Man, Anderson and co. are setting the table for a follow-up to their critically-acclaimed, breakthrough 2023 LP Cartwheel, which Paste critic Andy Steiner wrote “bundles together the distortion and crackle of classics like Loveless and Souvlaki with the ethos of community that has always been equally as important in the history of that misunderstood genre.”
Raspberry Moon is the level-up record after a level-up record, as Hotline TNT remain in forward motion. Lead single “Julia’s War” is the dawn of a new era for the project, as Raspberry Moon marks the first release recorded by Anderson, Haylen Trammel, Mike Ralston, and Lucky Hunter together as a band. In a nod to They Are Gutting a Body of Water’s record label, “Julia’s War” is the catchiest thing Hotline TNT have ever made.
Anderson said about “Julia’s War”: “In a world of half-hearted hooks and buried-in-the-mix vocals, we had to muster the courage to do what the rest of the shoegaze community could not… We looked out to the stadium and reassured the audience: Our voices, together, will be heard. You’ve never heard a TNT chorus this straightforward — when we stress-tested it during the writing process, the ‘try not to sing along challenge’ came back with a 100% fail rate.”
