Hovvdy Share Somber New Song, “Easy”

Austin-based bedroom-pop duo Hovvdy have shared a new song, “Easy,” off a forthcoming 7-inch out Oct. 5 through Saddle Creek.

Hovvdy is the writing and recording project of Charlie Martin and Will Taylor. The duo, both primarily drummers, first met in the fall of 2014 and quickly bonded over a love of quiet music.

That love of quiet is reflected in “Easy.” The song is mid-tempo melancholy in the form of piano and gently brushed drums. The dreamy, obscured vocals render small moments in a nostalgic haze. Lines like “You wake with the lamp on, but in the dark blue wall, you sink back into sleep” land with an earnestness that recalls sun-faded visions of youth.

Hovvdy’s forthcoming 7-inch is part of Saddle Creek’s Document Series. Each release featured in the Document Series is comprised of an exclusive record featuring unreleased music from artists outside of the label’s roster, along with a specially curated zine created by the artist. Hovvdy’s Document 7-inch will be the label’s fifth installment in the series. You can preorder it here.

Hovvdy has announced a tour this September with Palm, LVL UP and True Blue.
