Iceage Announce New Album, Share Sky Ferreira Collaboration and U.S. Tour Dates

Danish post-punk band Iceage have revealed the details of their forthcoming album, Beyondless, out on May 4 via Matador Records.

After the release of “Catch It” last month, their first new single since 2013’s Plowing Into The Field of Love, the band has shared a new track, “Pain Killer” featuring Sky Ferreira—the first guest vocalist to appear on an Iceage track.

On “Pain Killer,” frontman Elias Bender Rønnenfelt and Ferreira draw on the glaring parallels between love and drug addiction in a funky, brass-filled take on the band’s traditional brash, post-punk sound. The pair sings about an intense, intoxicating romance, adorned with lyrics consisting of surreal and psychedelic imagery: “Like death / She takes everything / And dazes me like patent medicine / Into this strange divine / The road was serpentine.”

Beyondless is the band’s fourth LP. It was produced by the band with Nis Bysted, recorded all-analog by Mattias Glavå in Sweden and mixed by Randall Dunn in Seattle. Per a description of the album by Matador Records:

The intoxication is consistent, this has always been drunk music, but it’s less a stumbling confusion and more a sturdy heartfelt confession with each record. They have finally caught up with their ambition. Their entire charm has always rested in their running ahead of themselves with blind confidence, taunting you to follow and you follow because wherever they are going is vital, is alive; on Beyondless they are treading with an assurance that is disarming, but there is no loss of charm, you are arm in arm now, whispering intimacies.

In conjunction with the new album release, Iceage have announced March residencies in New York and Los Angeles, and dates in Japan in April, along with their previously announced European and North American tours in May and June.
