Jack White shared a statement condemning homophobia on Wednesday after learning that a venue staffer stopped two women from kissing at his Nov. 2 show at Rogers Place in Edmonton.
“I embraced my girlfriend, and some staff member came in between us, and she said, ‘This is not allowed here,’” Allyson MacIvor told CBC. “It was very violating and invasive. It’s not something I’d ever imagine experiencing, honestly.”
White addressed the incident onstage the next night at a show in Calgary and dedicated “Love Interruption” to the women, following up that tribute by sharing his statement the next day in an Instagram post.
The post features a picture of two women kissing at a Beatles concert in 1964. “This is one of my favorite photos because of how beautiful the situation is; they are hiding in plain sight,” White writes. “Its 2018 now and two people expressing affection shouldn’t have to hide … Let’s promote love and acceptance wherever and whenever we can.”
