Watch Jack White and Jimmy Fallon Swap Altar Boy Stories, Break Down Boarding House Reach

We’re in the midst of a big couple of weeks for Jack White, between the March 23 release of his third solo album Boarding House Reach, his upcoming world tour in support of the record and his impending performance on this weekend’s John Mulaney-hosted episode of Saturday Night Live. So, as rock stars do, White took to The Tonight Show to shoot the shit with Jimmy Fallon and promote all of the above.

In the first of two clips from the episode, White and Fallon recall being altar boys, swapping stories of adolescent mischief—it’s interesting to see such high-profile performers look back on their “first experience of performing on stage.” From there, talk turns to White’s children’s book We’re Going to Be Friends (White jokes that he’ll write another called “Anyone Can Be President”), with the former White Stripe saying of his kids, “Any new music I’m working on, I love to play to them, because they are completely honest. Kids don’t lie.” The segment ends with White and Fallon talking up the musician’s touring band: White says the group has been “getting our feet wet, sea legs” at recent shows, describing their sound as “very heavy.” “I’ve never been in a band this loud before,” White says.

In the second interview segment, White speaks to his listening intake while recording, the “old-school” recording process he employed to make Boarding House Reach and … an old Ghostbusters marketing ploy, as well as how Al Capone contributed to White’s album closer, “Humoresque.” See that bit below and read our review of Boarding House Reach here.
