Watch Janelle Monae’s Stunning New Video, “Pynk,” Featuring Grimes and Tessa Thompson

Earlier this February, super-star musician Janelle Monae announced the release of her forthcoming new album, Dirty Computer, due out on April 27 via Atlantic Records. Set to be an “emotion picture” consisting of an album and subsequent film, the album’s announcement was unveiled alongside the release of its first two singles and accompanying music videos, “Make Me Feel” and “Django Jane.”

Tuesday, the American singer, in collaboration with the Canadian producer and visual artist Grimes, released the third and most recent single off her forthcoming album, a girl-powered message of female empowerment titled “Pynk.” The description on the video’s YouTube page reads:

PYNK is a brash celebration of creation. self love. sexuality. and pussy power! PYNK is the color that unites us all, for pink is the color found in the deepest and darkest nooks and crannies of humans everywhere…
PYNK is where the future is born….

Hinting towards the future, the video begins with a pinked-out hover car gliding over an empty desert road. The Emma Westenberg-directed music video features Monae backed by beautifully choreographed dancers as they move in synchronicity alongside the track’s 808 beat, filtered in a stunning pink hue. Prominently displayed in the video are Monae’s vagina-inspired pants, which further add to the themes of feminine pride. Look closely and you’ll also find Westworld and Annihilation star Tessa Thompson cradled in between Monae’s legs.

Again, “Pynk” is the third single off the musician’s forthcoming album, following “Django Jane” and “Make Me Feel.” Watch the videos in their respective tracklist order to experience the album’s visual narrative in full.
