Hear An Excerpt From Jeff Tweedy’s New Audible Original Please Tell My Brothers

Hot on the heels of news that he will be publishing a third book in November and that the album he produced for country icon Rodney Crowell will be out this May, Wilco’s Jeff Tweedy has announced the release of his latest project: the Audible Original Jeff Tweedy’s Words + Music: Please Tell My Brothers.

This two-hour Audible Original features Tweedy performing solo renditions of songs from throughout his storied career — “Jesus, etc.,” “Please Tell My Brother” and “She’s a Jar,” among them — and telling the tales behind each one. That allows the beloved singer-songwriter the space to discuss his family, the death of his mother, his struggles with addiction and his fascinating musical evolution.

To get a little taste of what Tweedy has in store, he and Audible are kindly offering up a little taste of Please Tell My Brothers for Paste readers. In this clip, you’ll hear him get intensely personal about his dad, digging into the elder Tweedy’s political awakening that, in turn, helped inspire the lyrics for “I Am My Mother,” a song found on Wilco’s 2022 album Cruel Country.

Check out Please Tell My Brothers and the full slate of Audible’s Words + Music series, featuring entries from Aimee Mann, Beck and Tenacious D, here.

As for Tweedy, he’s got a busy 2023 ahead with a full run of shows with Wilco, including a trio of sold out shows in Iceland and an appearance at the Paredes de Coura Festival in Portugal. Along the way, he’ll squeeze in a few solo shows with two dates in Chicago and a stop at the Timber! Festival in Carnation, Washington. Click here to see the full tour itinerary.
