Hear Jessica Lea Mayfield at Daytrotter 10 Years Ago Today
It’s been just over 10 years since Jessica Lea Mayfield released her first full-length album, With Blasphemy So Heartfelt, at age 19 in 2008. A friend of Dan Auerbach, Mayfield sang backup on “Things Ain’t Like They Used to Be” from The Black Keys’ 2008 album Attack & Release. Auerbach returned the favor by producing Blasphemy and offering his studio in Akron, Ohio as home base for recording the album. Mayfield’s blend of country, rock and folk drew admiration from media outlets and fans alike.
Shortly after the arrival of Blasphemy, on this day (April 16) in 2009, Mayfield dropped in the Daytrotter Studio in Rock Island, Ill., to perform three songs from the album: “I’m Not Lonely Anymore,” “Kiss Me Again” and “Bible Days.” Listen to the whole session below. While you’re at it, watch Mayfield’s more recent session in the Paste Studio, further down.
