See Johnnyswim & Drew Holcomb and The Neighbors Perform “Ring the Bells” on Kimmel

In May, two key players in feel-good Americana released an EP that, well, feels pretty good. Goodbye Road, a collaboration by folk swingers Johnnyswim and stomp-and-holler stalwarts Drew Holcomb and The Neighbors, is easy acoustic listening, a collection of five tracks proving there’s nothing like a little collaborative energy to lift spirits. On Wednesday, the two groups rendezvoused on the Jimmy Kimmel Live! stage to perform the EP’s prevailing track, “Ring the Bells.” Watch it go down below.

The pair of bands also delivered an online-exclusive performance of the Goodbye Road title track. You can watch that down below, too. On the record, fellow folksters Penny and Sparrow contribute to that track as well as a heartfelt, acoustic rendering of Tom Petty’s “Won’t Back Down.”

Goodbye Road follows Johnnyswim’s 2016 LP Georgica Pond and Holcomb’s 2017 offering, Souvenir. The two groups also wrapped up a short tour together last month. Married duo Amanda Sudano and Abner Ramirez make up Johnnyswim, and here’s what Holcomb had to say about their songwriting and the shared project, per the Goodbye Road website:

One of the things I’ve always loved about Abner and Amanda’s writing is that it dives into the dark parts of humanity, but still comes out of that darkness with hope and light. When we were recording these songs, it was a hard moment. There was a lot happening in the world, and we felt a mutual sorrow about it, but we also shared the belief that sorrow didn’t have to be the entirety of the story.

Further down, watch some cheerful Paste footage of Johnnyswim playing in Nashville on a sunny June day in 2013. Read the Paste review of Drew Holcomb and The Neighbors’ 2017 album Souvenir here.
