Jon Hopkins Announces New Album Singularity, Shares Chaotic New Single “Emerald Rush”

Jon Hopkins has announced his new album, Singularity—his first new album in five years—out on May 4 via Domino Records. Singularity will be his first new album since 2013’s critically acclaimed and Mercury Prize-nominated LP Immunity.

Hopkins has also shared a new track, “Emerald Rush,” accompanied by an animated music video directed by Robert Hunter and Elliot Dear. According to a statement, the video “explores the dissonance between dystopian urbanity and the green forest.” The schizophrenic new track is a chaotic, ambient mix of electronic and dance music, with equal moments of solace and harshness.

Per a press release:

Shaped by Hopkins’ experiences with meditation and trance states, the album flows seamlessly from rugged techno to transcendent choral music, from solo acoustic piano to psychedelic ambient. Its epic musical palette is visceral and emotionally honest: with a destructive opener full of industrial electronics and sonic claustrophobia and a redemptive, pure end on solo piano.
