California punks and emo-scene veterans Joyce Manor have announced a follow-up to 2016’s Cody. Million Dollars To Kill Me is the band’s fifth full-length album and Wednesday, they shared the title track, along with a lyric video created by Eric Richter.
At just over two minutes, the track stays true to the short and punchy style of the band while making sure to wallow in the usual emotions. “And one day you will realize / you are nothing, nothing without her / You’re an asshole from a bar on a break in a break room / And you’re never happy,” sings Barry Johnson. The song centers on the idea that “nobody tells you it hurts to be loved,” another classic sad song rumination that nobody talks about but everyone knows is true.
Million Dollars To Kill Me was produced by Converge guitarist Kurt Ballou and is set to be released on Sept. 21 via Epitaph. “If 2016’s Cody was about growing up, then Kill Me is about what happens next,” explains a press release. In addition to the album, Joyce Manor have also announced a tour that will kick off in Woodstock, N.Y. on Oct. 9.
