  3. The Way We Are
  4. Northern Lights

If it were easy, we’d just all change our perspectives to the ones that are raised in Kate Boy songs. Suddenly, we wouldn’t be where we expected to be. We’d be somewhere incredibly spacious. We’d be somewhere that not only hosts but caters to strange future tenses, even when we’re stuck in these present moments where everything smells like damp towels and burned wires, or collisions and disappointment. The way that Kate Boy and – just as specifically lead singer Kate Akhurst — expend themselves in these songs, there’s a sense that the people in these songs are at an interesting crossroads where things feel about to be altered. There’s going to be some kind of change because it can’t just keep going on this way. There’s gotta be a shift in the way that things are moving along. It could all wind round to something worse than it is now, but just the possibility of an alteration in the way that things are is exciting enough to get the blood pumping quite a bit more. These are burning times – sections of living that we get acquainted to through chance and serial struggle. These are the things that – after all this time – have finally morphed into their current states.
