Kesha Returns With Triumphant Single “Praying,” Announces First New Album in Five Years
Photo via RCA Records/Kemosabe RecordsKesha has returned to reclaim her pop superstardom with a new song and music video, “Praying,” and the announcement of Rainbow, her first new album in five years.
Rainbow will be released Aug. 11 via RCA Records/Kemosabe Records, which Dr. Luke left this April following the highly publicized legal battle he had with Kesha last year. Collaborations on the album include tracks joined by Dolly Parton and Eagles of Death Metal, with production by Ryan Lewis and Ben Folds, among others.
To accompany the release of her first single off of Rainbow, “Praying,” Kesha penned an essay for Lenny Letter, in which she described the “intense anxiety and depression, a relentless eating disorder, and all the other basic bullshit that comes with being human” that she experienced leading up to, during and following her decision to speak out about the verbal, physical and sexual abuse she accused her producer, Dr. Luke, of committing. She writes:
‘Praying’ was written about that moment when the sun starts peeking through the darkest storm clouds, creating the most beautiful rainbow. Once you realize that you will in fact be OK, you want to spread love and healing. If you feel like someone has wronged you, get rid of that hate, because it will just create more negativity. One thing that has brought me great relief is praying for those people. Being angry and resentful will do nothing but increase your own stress and anxiety—and hate is the fuel that grows the viruses. Don’t let anyone steal your happiness!
