Kevin Morby Shares New Single “Nothing Sacred/All Things Wild”

Modern Lou Reed acolyte Kevin Morby has just dropped his newest single, “Nothing Sacred/All Things Wild.” The track is Morby’s second release from his forthcoming album Oh My God, an ambitious double LP due out April 26 via Dead Oceans.

On the cloudy, minimalist track, Morby reminisces on his youth over the soft buzz of an electric organ, loose pats on a conga drum, the echoed hums of a small choir and warm saxophone riffs. The accompanying video—directed by Christopher Good and produced by Andreina Byrne—creates an abstract dream that feels as accordingly in the sky as the song itself. Morby also worked with Good on a “Gondry-esque” short film to accompany the album, which premieres April 3 in Los Angeles.

“‘Nothing Sacred’ was the moment that [producer Sam Cohen] and I stumbled into what would become the sonic landscape of Oh My God by breaking the songs down to their parts and doing away with a conventional band,” Morby explains. “Rather than I play the song on guitar as originally intended, Sam suggested I only sing while he play organ and Nick [Kinsey], who is the drummer of my live band, play congas. Within moments of the first take it became clear what the record was to become, and how we wanted to represent the songs. What you’re hearing here is a first take and the sound of us walking into a new discovery.”

Oh My God marks Morby’s fifth solo album, and will consist of 14 high-concept tracks and four sides.
