Khalid Announces Benefit Concert for El Paso in Wake of Tragic Shooting

Khalid has officially announced that he will play a benefit concert on Sept. 1 at the Don Haskins Center in El Paso, Texas, with yet-to-be-announced special guests.

The alt-pop sensation will support and honor his hometown in the wake of its tragic mass shooting, paying homage to the victims lost on Aug. 3, 2019.

Khalid will raise funds through the benefit concert to support the El Paso Shooting Victims’ Fund and the El Paso Community Foundation.

Regarding the event, Khalid said in a statement that he wants to “give back” to his community and to help others “heal together through music” after yet another gun-related American tragedy:

I have been rocked to the core by the horrific act of gun violence that came to El Paso, and by the continued acts of senseless violence that our country faces daily. I want to give back to my community of El Paso, the city of the 915, who has given so much to me. Please come out and let’s heal together through music while raising money to help those who need it.

Khalid has been sending love to his hometown and Dayton, Ohio, ever since news of the devastating back-to-back shootings broke. He has advocated for gun control and originally wrote in a series of tweets on Aug. 5 that he was “planning a benefit concert.”

The Great Khalid Foundation and Right Hand Foundation will present the event, officially titled, “A Night For Suncity Benefit Concert with Khalid,” which references the October 2018 Khalid track “Suncity” that pays tribute to El Paso, from his EP of the same name.

Khalid most recently released his second studio album Free Spirit in April, and has had countless chart-topping hits, garnering millions of Spotify streams and radio plays.

Tickets for the benefit concert will go on sale to the public on Wednesday, Aug. 14 at 10 a.m. local time on Live Nation’s website.

Donations for the El Paso victims are being accepted on The Great Khalid Foundation’s website and commemorative shirts are also being sold.
