Ahead of her forthcoming debut album Cheap Queen, King Princess has released another new track, “Prophet.”
Sultry and based in a subtle, hip-hop-nuanced backing beat, “Prophet” sees King Princess completely enthralled with the song’s subject. “‘Cause I can only think about you / And what it’s like to walk around you / And why they like to talk about you,” King Princess sings during the song’s chorus.
The singer took to Twitter earlier this week to celebrate the song’s impending release, even saying it’s one of her favorite songs she’s written.
Prophet is one of my favorite songs I’ve ever written. So excited to share with you all <3

The track has a dark feel compared to the album’s other advance tracks. “Prophet” sees King Princess evoke the slinky, dark vibes of someone like Banks, while lead single “Cheap Queen” sees the singer beckon the snappy, pop tones of singers like FLETCHER and Hayley Kiyoko. Other than those two tracks, King Princess has released the album’s interlude, “Useless Phrases.” Sitting at a minute and 15 seconds, the track is short in length but nonetheless squeezes in some melodic vocals from the singer.
Out this fall via Mark Ronson’s Zelig Records and Columbia, Cheap Queen marks King Princess’ debut album, after her debut EP Make My Bed, which contained her smash hit “1950,” solidified her as a rising star in the music industry and a blooming queer pop icon.
