Kings of Leon Announce New Album We Are Like Love Songs
Kings of Leon began hinting at their seventh studio album, the follow up to 2013’s Mechanical Bull, via their Facebook and Twitter accounts over the weekend. The presumptive title was “Walls”, as the Southern rockers placed a graphic of the word as their Facebook cover photo and plastered #WALLS on every teaser post. However, this would be the first Kings of Leon record not to bear a five-syllable title, causing many fans to question if “Walls” was an acronym.
The band’s first teaser post, a soundless video uploaded to their Twitter account, runs through the Kings of Leon’s six previous studio album titles before revealing “7 is coming.” Another teaser video was then tweeted today, accompanied by the caption “We Are Like Love Songs,” replacing the acronym with a confirmed five-syllable title. This is the first video to include sound, fading out with the lyrics “And the walls come down.”
Based in Nashville, the Kings are known for their more accessible take on Southern rock, but their past few albums have slightly strayed from this sound. The band told the Associated Press last December that they would be returning to L.A. to record their next album, which could indicate an attempt to revert to their signature sound. “We might just try to get a little change of scenery,” said drummer Nathan Followill. “Our first two albums were recorded in L.A., so we’re going to try to go back and see if it inspires us.”
A release date for We Are Like Love Songs has yet to be announced, but according to All Access Music Group’s database, the lead single “Waste A Moment” is due out Sept. 12.
