Kurt Vile Releases Rolling Stones Cover, Announces Summer Tour Dates

Modern don of classic folk/rock Kurt Vile has just dropped two new Spotify Singles: a stripped-down version of his own “Loading Zones,” as well as a cover of The Rolling Stones’ “No Expectations.”

This version of his stand-out single from Bottle It In sees Vile rely on his rhythmic, driving guitar-picking and the occasional whine of a harmonica to sell his story about fighting the law and winning. The Stones cover features some diffuse, programmed drums and light grand piano keys, making for a very laid-back, simple cover of a dizzying classic.

“This arrangement of The Rolling Stones’ ‘No Expectations’ I’ve been kicking around since my early 20s (I’m 39 now!) so it’s in my DNA,” Vile tweeted Wednesdsay. “I hope Keith and Mick hear it, actually … they should! I love the way it turned out.”

And although he’s already playing dates in Australia and New Zealand, Vile and The Violators have just announced a fresh batch of summer tour stops back at home, including appearances at Pitchfork Festival, Osheaga Festival and NYC’s Central Park Summerstage.
