Lala Lala, one of Paste’s Chicago bands to watch in 2018, have released the video for their song “Copycat,” off their latest album The Lamb, out now through Hardly Art Records.
The video for “Copycat” is similar to the one for “Scary Movie,” featuring no-frills, homemade footage to complement frontwoman Lillie West’s deceptively simple songwriting. The grainy footage of West is reminiscent of the type of Photobooth footage kids used to put on Myspace, or what they’re still putting up on TikTok. The representation of one’s digital self is what inspired West to make the song: “Copycat’ in particular is about how everyone talks exactly the same on the Internet and it sometimes feels futile to try and be yourself,” she says in a statement.
Lala Lala also announced Friday they would be embarking on their first-ever U.S. headlining tour, including shows at Chicago’s Metro and Brooklyn’s Rough Trade. Find a full list of those dates further down.
