Inaugural Sound Mind Event to Feature Torres, Langhorne Slim and More, Raising Awareness for Mental Health in Music
Photo by Mike Windle/GettyMore than 70% of working musicians live with some sort of mental health issue, according to the National Alliance on Mental Illness. A new event is seeking to end the stigma surrounding that statistic.
The inaugural Sound Mind event is happening Monday, May 13, at Rough Trade in New York City, and will bring artists, organizations and speakers together to raise funds for the NYC branch of the National Alliance on Mental Illness. The Recording Academy’s MusicCares, HBO and The Wild Honey Pie are also event partners.
The first Sound Mind event will feature performances by Langhorne Slim, Torres, Rosie Carney and more, many of whom have advocated for this cause before. Speakers include Aparna Nancherla and Gary Culman.
Tickets for Monday’s show are now sold out, but Sound Mind plans to follow this event with more throughout the year.
