Ms. Lauryn Hill Announces The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill 20th Anniversary World Tour
Images via Theo Wargo/Getty, Columbia/RuffhouseMs. Lauryn Hill has a singular discography in more ways than one. Her 1998 debut album The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill, which remains her only full-length release to date, was massively successful, winning a record-breaking five Grammy awards, selling millions of copies the world over and making the 23-year-old solo artist, who first rose to fame with The Fugees, a global superstar. Two decades later, the album is as beloved as ever, and Hill is celebrating its 20th anniversary with a world tour, on which she will perform The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill in full. Proceeds from the tour will go to an extensive set of charities.
Hill kicks off the North American summer leg of her tour on July 5 in Virginia Beach, Va., making stops in Boston, Philadelphia, Miami, Atlanta, Denver and Dallas, among many other cities, before concluding with an Oct. 5 stop in St. Louis. Further details of Hill’s tour will be announced soon, including both her international itinerary and the full lineup of special guest performers set to appear at each show on the tour.
Tickets for Hill’s North American shows go on sale to the public starting this Friday, April 20 at 10 a.m. local time via LiveNation.com, with a portion of ticket sales benefitting the MLH Foundation, “which directly contributes support for education, health, agriculture, technology, and community based businesses and development initiatives throughout the Diaspora,” per a press release.
Ms. Lauryn Hill herself said of the tour in a statement:
This album chronicled an intimate piece of my young existence. It was the summation of most, if not all, of my most hopeful and positive emotions experienced to that date. I Loved and believed deeply in my community’s ability to both Love and heal itself provided it received the right amount of support and encouragement. Our world today, both complex and changing, is in need of the balance between moral fortitude and cathartic expression. I hope the Love and energy that permeated this work can continue to inspire change with Love and optimism at the helm.
Hill will also perform at the Apollo Theater on Tuesday, May 1. Tickets to the show, available exclusively to Citi cardmembers, will cost $20 in honor of The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill’s anniversary, with all proceeds going directly to the MLH Foundation. Find out more here.
