Watch an Exclusive Clip from Liam Gallagher’s New Documentary As It Was

Liam Gallagher is releasing his second solo album Why Me? Why Not. on Sept. 20 via Warner Records, and he’s also the subject of a new documentary, As It Was, directed by Gavin Fitzgerald and Charlie Lightening. As It Was is out in theaters on Sept. 13, on digital HD download on Sept. 17 and on video-on-demand on Oct. 18. Scroll down to watch an exclusive clip from the documentary, in which Gallagher performs in front of a sea of adoring fans at Manchester’s O2 Ritz.

As It Was, already released in the U.K., follows Gallagher in the aftermath of Beady Eye’s breakup and the spearheading of his solo career. The audience can follow Gallagher and his inner circle in vans, tour buses and venues across the world, as well as his childhood home where his mother Peggy still lives. The film also brings you backstage at his massive Glastonbury Festival slot in 2017, the One Love Manchester benefit concert where he performed with Coldplay and his triumphant hometown headlining gig after the Manchester Arena terrorist attack.

“I keep telling people it’s not Star Wars,” Gallagher says. “But it’s got some good bits and hopefully people will enjoy it.”

As It Was opens this Friday (Sept. 13) at New York City’s Cinema Lounge and Los Angeles’ Arena Cinelounge, and there’s a one-night screening in Columbus, Ohio, on Sept. 15 at the Gateway Film Center.

Gallagher’s debut solo album As You Were was a huge success, debuting at number one on the U.K. charts, out-selling the other nine albums in the top 10 combined, hitting gold in its first week and now sitting at certified platinum. Though Gallagher wrote a few songs on As You Were with producers Greg Kurstin and Andrew Wyatt, he co-wrote every song on Why Me? Why Not. alongside the same two producers.
