Outside Lands Announces 2016 Lineup, Plus Lionel Richie And Duran Duran
And with this, we’re essentially at the end of festival lineup announcement season! San Francisco’s Outside Lands, which takes places Aug. 5-7, revealed its slate of acts today, and at the top of the bill, it’s mostly what you’d expect this festival season: Radiohead, LCD Soundsystem, Lana Del Rey, J. Cole, Major Lazer, etc. Lionel Richie and Duran Duran are really the only surprise headliners—Duran Duran actually sounds like a lot of fun given today’s proliferation of neo-’80s pop rock, provided that Simon Le Bon can still sing. And Chance the Rapper might effectively be a headliner by the time August rolls around, if his upcoming third mixtape matches the quality of his verse on “Ultralight Beam.”
Most of the down-bill acts are also playing at the other big festivals, but that’s not to say that Outside Lands didn’t assemble a very nice collection of them. Some of our favorites include Låpsley, Julien Baker, Anderson .Paak and the Free Nationals, Vince Staples, Haelos, Vulfpeck, and Kamasi Washington. Check out the full lineup here.
