Listen to Lizzo’s Gorgeous Cover of “Shallow” to Remind Yourself That Life Is Good

Around here we are big fans of Lizzo, in case you haven’t noticed. Her forthcoming album Cuz I Love You, which arrives on April 19, is one of our most anticipated of the month and, strangely enough, Paste’s Ellen Johnson referenced A Star Is Born when describing the pop star’s meteoric rise. Is she a pre-cog? Maybe. Is Lizzo covering “Shallow” everything we dreamed of? Definitely.

“Shallow,” the Academy Award-winning song from A Star Is Born, feels tailor-made for Lizzo’s unstoppable voice. She makes the softer moments soulful and tender, and then belts the most gut-wrenching parts of the track with transcendent power. The artistic choice to sing both parts also speaks incredibly to Lizzo’s message of self-love (“I’m in love with myself!” she declared during her standout SXSW performance this year).
