Hailing from a small town in Texas, singer-songwriter Lomelda, aka Hannah Read, creates music that battles the feeling of growing up and living in a small town in the Lone Star State—where the sky is gigantic, freeways seem to stretch towards infinity as rows of gaudy advertising and fast-food chains that you didn’t think actually existed line them, and the landscape is both miraculous and overwhelming—conveying a feeling of both utter isolation and the possibility to do anything. Thx, Read’s, forthcoming record, explores the theme of finding solace on the open road—from interstates, to coasts, to car windows. Today, she shared another new track, “From Here,” which you can listen to below.
Playing music since an early age, Read started Lomelda in high school, which adds to the music’s vulnerable folk-song appeal—each song is a short ballad of intimate moments among friends and lovers, and young and self-aware grandiose observations. “From Here” is a four-and-a-half minute breathy song about driving to be found.
In 2015 Read released Forever, her emotionally intense debut, which gained her a solid group of fans, including members of indie-rock band Pinegrove, with whom she will be touring this fall. Thx is out on Sept. 8.
