Finally, Lorde Announces Melodrama, Releases New Single/Video “Green Light”

Finally, after almost four years, we’re getting our ears on some new Lorde music. After teasing the release only a few days ago, she shared her first single, titled “Green Light,” from Melodrama, which will be her first album since 2013’s Pure Heroine. Our first taste of the new album is just as fabulous as we thought it might be: Lorde returns with the sound that made her famous, a sort of synthy, glam-pop with a driving piano line.

Coupled with the single, she also released a Grant Singer-directed video that matches the sheen of the music, drenched in bright, vibrant neon lights. It finishes with a striking shot of her against a sunset backdrop, as she struggles with getting past a bad relationship, singing, “Honey, I’ll come get my things but I can’t let go.” Lorde said in a tweet of the song, “i am so proud of this song. it’s very different, and kinda unexpected. it’s complex and funny and sad and joyous and it’ll make you DANCE.”

Since Lorde revealed last fall that her album was written, we’ve been anxiously awaiting it. “Green Light” is a promising first step for the new record, which is due out this summer via LAVA/Republic.
