The Strokes To Perform at Los Angeles Benefit Concert for the Homeless

The Strokes, who’ve been known to hold gigs for charity before, have just announced their only Los Angeles-area date for this year: an appearance at the historic Wiltern Theatre, titled the City of Angels Benefit Concert, on July 25. Proceeds from the concert will go towards three L.A.-based nonprofits geared towards remedying urban homelessness and mental health issues: The Center in Hollywood, Waste Not Want Not Now and the Downtown Women’s Center.

This is a relatively active year for the Strokes, who’ve just released their first new music in years, the EP Future Present Past, and recently debuted a music video for the song “Threat of Joy”, on top of giving an energetic, well-received performance as headliners for their hometown show at Governor’s Ball in New York City last month. Famously elusive frontman Julian Casablancas has hinted at a full-length album and possibly a tour to come, but until those rumors are confirmed, this upcoming L.A. gig is looking to be the band’s first and only West Coast appearance for the year, as well as their only foreseeable scheduled North American show.

About the benefit show, Casablancas commented in a press release, “Homelessness and mental health are big issues in LA and we’re happy to do a little something that can hopefully help a bit. The Center in Hollywood and Waste Not Want Not Now are great, well-intentioned and trustworthy charities doing wonderful work.”
