Lost Girls Release “Ruins”
Photo by Signe Fuglesteg LuksengardNorwegian duo Lost Girls have released their new single “Ruins,” the group’s first music since their acclaimed 2021 LP Menneskekollektivet. The hypnotic experimental rock track feels both ceremonial and new-age, a dazzling combination of pulsing instrumentals and supernatural vocals. Horns and guitars swirl and spike in turn, creating a track at once melodic and syncopated.
“It felt too difficult to try to learn or tame [‘Ruins’]…After improvising for a bit I realized that I was singing about this kind of pattern of movement, but as a band practice in the 90s, back when I first started playing with other people. If “Ruins” is ‘about’ anything, it’s about a practice of discovery, being young and lost and feeling as if you are close to something ancient and magical,” Vocalist Jenny Hval explains.
