Atlanta five-piece indie band Lunar Vacations announced their sophomore album today with the release of its first single, “Set the Stage,” and a video directed by actor/musician Finn Wolfhard. Drew Vandenberg (Faye Webster, Toro y Moi, Of Montreal) produced Everything Matters, Everything’s Fire, due out Sept. 13th on Keeled Scales, and “Set the Stage” promises a heavier, shoegazy sound than their 2021 debut, Inside Every Fig Is a Dead Wasp.
The single is a love song singer/guitarist Gep Repasky wrote for someone and shared with them. “That is the first and last time I will ever do that,” she said. “Love can make you do really strange things.”
The Stranger Things actor and frontman for The Aubreys was inspired by the song’s thick wall of droning guitars contrasting Raparsky’s vocals when finding the tone for the video. “Gep’s beautiful melody offsets the darkness by bringing a levity and brightness,” Wolfhard said. “The goal was to have that melody reflected by dance, choreographed by the amazing Elana Wulkan.”
The band will play a handful of solo shows this fall in between touring stints with Vacations in July and Manchester Orchestra in November. Watch the video for “Set the Stage” below, followed by Lunar Vacation’s Paste Session from 2019.
