Lutalo Shares “Darkeve Duet” with Lomelda

Lutalo’s debut EP Once Now, Then Again will be released physically with vinyl for the first time on June 23rd via Winspear. Lutalo has reworked “Darkeve Duet,” a track first released as “Darkeve” in 2021, to include indie-folk singer/songwriter Lomelda. The track is somber and hymnal, demanding the listener’s attention with sometime-sparse, sometime-full-bodied instrumentation and drawn-out vocal tracks. The little errors and background noises of a newly-raw recording session flit in the backdrop of a sonic landscape which interweaves gravitas and solemnity with the lightness of Lomelda’s signature syrupy croon.

Once Now, Then Again tows a delicate thematic line between Lutalo’s childhood in Minnesota and their current rural Vermont home. “The vision I have for this project is not so much genre-based as it is sound-based, and that sound is just a reflection of me,” they explain. “I didn’t want any boundaries because I’m not trying to replicate anything that’s come before, I only want to be adding to music in some way.”
