Mandolin Orange have shared the video for “Time We Made Time,” the first single off their recently announced sixth studio album Tides of a Teardrop, out Feb. 1, 2019, on Yep Roc.
The video focuses in on the band, highlighting Andrew Marlin and Emily Frantz’s instrumental interplay. The song is a gentle, cascading bluegrass track that swirls around the grounding force of lead singer Marlin’s hurting baritone. Reverbed guitar, soaring violin and muted acoustics combine into a tide of bluegrass beauty, and the song rolls gently onward, ebbing and flowing between emotional crests.
The heartache of “Time We Made Time” is not a poetic abstraction. “I was in a particularly self-destructive mindset when this song came around,” Marlin said in a statement. “The loss of my Mom had manifested itself in many fatalistic forms and the writing of this song was an acknowledgement of that. The use of a metaphor served more as a journey than a tool.”
