Trip-hop icons Massive Attack have announced that they will be taking their 1998 masterpiece Mezzanine on tour under the name Mezzanine XXI for the album’s 21st anniversary, according to a post on the band’s Facebook page.
The show looks to be a re-structuring of the original master text, rather than a simple rehash. Founding member Robert Del Naja calls the show “a one-off piece of work; our own personalized nostalgia nightmare head trip” in a statement. Del Naja designed the entire tour and experience, which will use “custom audio reconstructed from the original samples and influences.”
The band will be announcing tourmates and “collaborators” at a later date, although they have already confirmed Liz Fraser of Cocteau Twins, who contributed vocals to Mezzanine standout “Teardrop.” Pre-sale tickets go on sale tomorrow, Oct. 31, with general sale tickets following this Friday, Nov. 2. The European tour dates can be found below, while the North American dates will be revealed this Friday. Listen to “Teardrop” while you’re down there.
