On the heels of a live-taped 20th anniversary show that saw the mid-aughts teen sensation step back into the role that launched her into stardom, Miley Cyrus has gone blonde again, releasing her first new Hannah Montana song in 16 years. “Younger You,” a syrupy, nostalgic acoustic ballad, traces Cyrus’ growing pains as the star moved beyond the Disney Channel role and into the adult limelight.
Hannah Montana, which premiered March 24, 2026, featured Cyrus living a double-life as a famous pop star and LA student Miley Stewart, juggling international fame with teenagerdom—something Cyrus was also doing when the show first aired. Hannah Montana songs including “Best of Both Worlds,” “Nobody’s Perfect,” and “He Could Be the One” earned Cyrus worldwide fame. After stepping out of the role in 2011, she began releasing music under her own name.
Cyrus performed “Younger You” during the anniversary special, which also featured appearances from former cast members and celebrity cameos, including Call Her Daddy host Alex Cooper, Chappell Roan, fellow Disney alumna Selena Gomez, and Cyrus’ father and Hannah Montana co-star, Billy Ray Cyrus. The tune, an apostrophic message to Cyrus’ younger self, laments how the two sides of her “lost touch”: “We used to be so happy just because. I know you had to go eventually, but don’t forget about me.” In the accompanying video, Cyrus drives wistfully through Malibu as clips from the show flash across the screen. The musician’s hair is styled in a typical Hannah Montana blunt bang—though now dyed to a sensible, more grown-up bronde. “This song is yours as a thank you for the life we’ve grown through together. I love you always,” the singer shared on Instagram.
