Morrissey’s “malefactors” list debunked and taken down amid copyright infringement accusations

Morrissey has demanded the removal of a satirical list of his “malefactors,” which rivaled the “public disputes and feuds” section on fellow shit-stirrer Azealia Banks’s Wikipedia page. The now-infamous “malefactors” list was edited to look like one of his blog posts and has since been circulated across the internet. Smiths meme page MozPosting’s parody was so spot-on that some people genuinely believed that the 67-year-old former Smiths frontman is beefing with Gordon Ramsay, Mitski, TV Girl, Mo Chara (of Kneecap), the entire nation of Canada, and himself (okay, that last one’s actually 100% believable). 

In response to claims of “copyright infringement and impersonation,” MozPosting deleted the fake blog post rather than attempt to find a parody loophole, and shared the following message on their Instagram story: 

Hey everyone, you may have noticed that I’ve removed my most recent post. I was just contacted by Morrissey’s management team and I was asked to take the post down due to copyright infringement and impersonation.

This account is and has always been intended as satire, and the post was a parody, but I don’t want to create any unnecessary issues. Thank you to everyone who enjoyed the joke while it lasted.

To everyone messaging asking if my previous story is a joke….. unfortunately, it isn’t. 🙁

I’m genuinely devastated. I’m a huge fan of the man’s music, and this whole situation has been incredibly disheartening.

I created this page out of appreciation and to share a few laughs in difficult times, because goodness knows we could all use them. It was never intended to cause harm.

Thank you to everyone who’s reached out with kind messages, I genuinely really appreciate it.
