MUNYA, aka French-Canadian producer, singer-songwriter and performer Josie Boivin, has shared “It’s All About You,” the lovely first single from her newly announced, self-produced EP Blue Pine, the third in a trilogy of three-song EPs (also including 2018’s North Hatley and Delmano) that will be combined to form her self-titled first physical release. Both Blue Pine (its title a nod to Twin Peaks’ fictional Blue Pine Mountains) and MUNYA are due out March 8 via House Arrest/Fat Possum imprint Luminelle Recordings.

“It’s about obsession, that feeling when everything you do is about trying to reach a singular goal, an object, or, in my case, love,” Boivin says of her new song. “This song is about my dream—this fantasy and obsession of wanting someone so bad that it hurts and everything I do is for the dream of being together.”

Boivin—a classically trained Québécois pianist, opera singer and jazz student who sings in French and English interchangeably—is uniquely equipped to convey the infatuation to which she alludes above. There’s no word for MUNYA’s vocals but ethereal, her voice a glowing instrument as smooth and luminous as mother of pearl. “Gotta be real, gotta be true, I’m going crazy / Can’t see the world I’m walking through, it’s all about you,” a single-minded Boivin sings over artfully layered synths and sitar accents, walking on air through a captivating haze.
