More Neil Young tribute music is on the way

Earlier this morning, Cinema Music Group and Killphonic Records announced the second and third volumes of Heart of Gold, a trio of tribute albums to music legend Neil Young, along with the artists who will feature on them. After the success of Volume 1, which was released last April and featured contributions from Fiona Apple, Brandi Carlisle, Eddie Vedder, and Stephen Marley, it’s no surprise the project is doubling down. The new pair of albums will feature a fresh slate of artists, from Modest Mouse and Lucina WIlliams to Peter Frampton, MJ Lenderman, Kurt Vile, and Los Lobos. All proceeds will go to The Bridge School, a nonprofit founded by the Youngs to aid individuals with life-altering communicative and physical disabilities.

To celebrate the double albums’ announcement, Cinema and Killphonic have released a song from each one: a King Princess rendition of “Helpless” from Volume 3: Into the Black and a version of “After the Gold Rush” performed by Latin star Draco Rosa on Volume 2: Out of the Blue, the latter arriving with a music video to boot. “Helpless” is searing and jazzy, full of many-layered harmonies that imbue it with an almost gospel inflection. “After the Gold Rush” is soulful and quavering, minimalistic and full of pathos. Listen to King Princess and Draco Rosa’s renditions of “Helpless” and “After the Gold Rush” below.
