Vermont folk star Noah Kahan returned as a musical guest to Saturday Night Live last night as the musical guest alongside host Matt Damon. The singer, who debuted on the show in 2023, recently shared his fourth studio album, The Great Divide. In her review of the album, Paste editor Casey Epstein-Gross wrote that Kahan’s Stick Season follow-up, for better or worse, “delivers more songs about dead bugs, driving, copper mines, demarcated lines, driving, substance abuse, and cold weather.”
Joined by his full band, Kahan brought a duo of earnest performances to Studio 8H. First up was the Great Divide title track, delivered on a set made to look like a New England living room. The rendition was equally explosive and melancholic, and the six-person ensemble gave Kahan and the song ample color. As the clock neared 1:00 a.m. in New York, Kahan, appropriately clad in a faded flannel and his signature braids, returned to the stage for a stripped-down take on “Doors” with a backdrop of summer storms.
SNL season 50 concludes next week with five-time host Will Ferrell and four-time musical guest (not including the show’s 40th and 50th anniversary specials) Paul McCartney, who’s got a new record out at the end of May. Watch Noah Kahan’s performances below.
