Korean-American singer-songwriter NoSo has announced their second album, When Are You Leaving?, due out October 10 via Partisan Records. The self-produced release follows Hwong’s 2022 debut, Stay Proud of Me, a record NoSo made about daydreaming (possibly in an attempt to dissociate from any struggles). Fast-forward three years, and When Are You Leaving? is “firmly rooted in reality and details my enlightening and tumultuous experiences head-on.”
Along with the announcement comes the groovy, nu-disco lead single “Sugar.” The track goes full ‘80s New Wave mode, with synths, marimba, and a deceptively up-tempo beat. NoSo’s vocals skate across the dreamy guitar, supported by faraway backing harmonies that give the song an anthemic feel. They shared in a press release that the track explores “the delicate dance of interacting with volatile, unwell individuals, that it’s a “reflection on those experiences, aiming to approach them with sympathy instead of anger.” “I’ve learned that this is the only way I can move forward,” NoSo contends, “by not feeding those memories and giving them power.”
NoSo will tour North America this fall, and the UK/EU into 2026. Tickets go on sale Wednesday, May 21, at 10 AM and $1 from all North American sales will go to LIFEBEAT (of the Elizabeth Taylor AIDS Foundation) and its youth support services.
